Conflicts Attorney – for top tier law firm in Washington, DC.  The hours for this position are 1pm - 9:30 pm M-F.  This position is responsible for initiating the conflict clearance process for all new engagements in response to new client/matter requests from partners; actively consulting with and following-up with responsible partners handling new engagements regarding conflicts clearance. Responsibilities for this position: analyze results from conflicts database searches and outside sources to identify potential or actual conflicts posed by new work or new hires; advise firm lawyers regarding conflicts clearance; draft conflicts waivers as necessary and takes steps to cure conflicts; instruct/oversee work of the nonlawyer conflicts staff; document/audit steps taken to clear conflicts; work with ethical walls/screens managed within Intapp Walls tool; along with non-lawyer conflicts staff, maintain/update conflicts database with information about Firm clients and matters, client subsidiaries and affiliates, related parties, etc.

Position Requirements:

Law degree from accredited school

Active DC bar membership required

Familiarity with D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct

Supervisory experience

Ability to provide instruction in a business setting

Proven legal/business research experience utilizing online databases and print resources required

Prior experience with Intapp OPEN or similar automated conflict of interest clearance workflow procedures and systems as found in AmLaw 100 Firms

Strong analytical skills, interpersonal/written communications skills

Must have the ability to synthesize complex data into a manageable, logical explanation of the legal issue and recommended steps to be taken.

Excellent judgment and confidence in knowledge of when to escalate an issue.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

 

Staff Attorneys - For highly regarded global law firm in DC. 

Staff Attorneys work on teams involved in document review and production projects.Candidates must be currently DC barred and have strong document review experience including QC and privilege experience.  Staff Attorneys will be hired for a particular matter, or significant project on a matter, and, unless earlier termination or re-assignment, will be released from the Firm when appropriate available work on the project or matter ends. 

Duties:

·        Review, analyze, annotate and/or redact documents and other informational materials in document review                database systems, and/or hard-copy document collections.

·        Assist in preparation of privilege and redaction logs.

·        Draft outlines and memoranda relating to the fact discovery issues and finding.

·        Assist with the quality control, and review metrics reporting processes as needed.

·        Work with the firm’s litigation support staff and/or e-discovery vendors to help resolve any operational                    issues with the document collections, databases, and review systems.

 Position requirements: 

JD from an accredited US law school

Current good standing with the DC Bar - required

Document review experience (at least one year) working on large litigation, investigation, or arbitration matters

Solid working knowledge of document review projects' purpose and typical work-flows

Thorough understanding of the rules and application of attorney-client and work product privilege

Significant experience with on-line document review systems such as Relativity, Documatrix, FTI's Ringtail, or similar

Fluency in a second language in addition to English is preferred but not required.

Flexibility to work overtime as necessary.

Salary 80k plus paid OT and benefits.

 

Patent Law Clerk - Life Sciences - for global law firm in Washington, DC.

This position works closely with and received patent law training by a supervising lawyer. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Preparing and filing new patent applications and other patent prosecution documents.

Conducting client technology and patent portfolio assessments.

Supporting business development.

Managing large domestic and foreign dockets.

Position Requirements:

Ph.D. and significant graduate level experience.

Broad training in the biological sciences are sought, with expertise in plant biology, biochemistry, genetics, chemistry, microbiology, entomology, immunology or chemical engineering highly preferred.

Research experience or training in RNA silencing, genome editing, nucleic acids chemistry, microbiomes, quantitative genetics, process and reactor design, separation technologies, thermodynamics and kinetics is desirable.

Excellent academic credentials and references.

Law school or prior legal training or enrollment in law school is not required.

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Strong problem solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively working in a fast-paced environment while exhibiting strong attention to detail.

Excellent organization and communications skills, both oral and written.
